Discover the stunning landscapes of Chilean Patagonia by foot and raft. Compare national park management in the U.S. and Chile, learn critical field skills, and interact with the local tourism industry through river guides and homestays.

Note that this program will include:

backpacking up to 15miles a day while carrying a pack of 20lbs+

tent camping in variable weather (3 nights)

rafting (no prior experience necessary)

OSU students will travel to southern Patagonia, Chile to discover land management and recreation in the Andes. You'll experience the beautifuly diverse landscapes from the luminous mountains to flowing rivers and how these are maintained. Compare land management in the US West Coast and Chile that have played a key role in maintaining the diverse flora and fauna of the region.

Activities include rafting in Rio Baker and backpacking in Cerro Castillo on the Las Horquetas trail. Students will participte in white water rafting at Puerto Bertrand along the Baker River.

Students participating in the Winter Term program are also eligable for this experienece. 

There are also opportunities for spring term internships in Chile! You can utilize financial aid and earn credit for these internships!
