New models predict fewer lightning-caused ignitions but bigger wildfires by mid century

Human-caused wildfire ignitions in Central Oregon are expected to remain steady over the next four decades and lightning-caused ignitions are expected to decline, but the average size of a blaze from either cause is expected to rise, Oregon State University modeling suggests.

Support:

  • $6500 per year
  • Additional funds available for supplemental experiential learning

Qualifications:

  • A student registered in Universities and Community Colleges in the US and associated territories.
  • Major in Renewable Materials or applicable field
  • Student should be registerered as a Degree Partnership Program Student
  • Students from underrepresented background are highly encouraged to apply.
  • 3.0 GPA
